Research and planning- genre research - photographs taken from an existing pop magazine- features included on a contents page

Above are some of the common features and articles included in a pop magazine. I am going to have similar ariticles and features to this in my own magazine because it fits the conventions of a pop magazine.

These are examples of double page spread layouts taken from an existing pop magazine. I like these layouts as it makes the pages look fun and quirky.

Examples of fact pages for artists. I may do some of these for my own magazine as my target audience will find them interesting.

Lots of magazines offer free things and I am going to do this as well to make my magazine more appealing.

Lots of magazines have competitions so the readers can win free stuff. I am going to include competitions in my magazine because it is conventional for a pop magazine.

Also in this magazine the page numbers are clear and are made up of 2 contrasting colours. I am going to have similar page numbers to this in my own magazine
Lots of pop magazines have puzzles like the one above and I am going to have something similar to this in my own pop magazine.

Research and planning- genre research - photographs taken from an existing pop magazine- cover

On this magazine cover the colour scheme used consists of yellow, pink and purple. I think the colours and layout work well on this cover and I will use a similar layout to this for my own magazine as it will suit the pop genre.
On the cover is a medium long shot of the main band featured in the magazine. I may also do this as it will attract my target audience and make more people buy my magazine.

Research and planning: practise headshots -different facial expressions

These facial expressions are quite jokey. I may use pictures like these in my magazine as it shows the artist doesn't take themselves to seriously.
This is a picture of someone with a cheesy smile and showing their teeth. I may use a picture like this in my magazine as it makes the artists look adorable and the cheesy smile is infectious.

This is a picture of someone posing for the camera. I may use a picture like this in my magazine as it makes the artists look attractive to the target audience.

Research and planning: practise headshots -normal facial expressions

These pictures show people with a normal facial expression. I may use pictures of people with a similar facial expression to this in my magazine. This is because they look intriguing and make the audience want to know more about them.

Research and planning: practise headshots-smiling

These pictures show these people with a hint of a smile. I am going to use pictures of people with a similar facial expression to this in my magazine. I like this kind of facial expression because it is not too posed, looks natural and is not fake.

Research and planning- three colour rule

Whilst making my magazine I am going to use the three colour rule and stick to using three main colours throughout all my magazine pages to develop a house style that can be associated with my magazine.

The three colours I am going to use are:
  • pink
  • purple
  • white

Research and planning- mastheads for magazine

Out of all my possible mastheads these two are my favourite and I will pick one of these to be my final masthead design for my magazine
