I looked at different pop magazines to see wat they had in common and to spot patterns between them. After doing this research I now know that in my magazine I need : -
my models to look good and have their hair and makeup done
I need to use bright colours and stay away from greys and browns
I need to use a range of suitable fonts in my magazine like the ones used in my collage.

I then started the production of my magazine in January 2012
I then did my evaluation in March 2011
My completed magazine is underneath this message
I hope you enjoy reading through my blog
Many thanks

Research and planning-evaluation of college magazine
I think that the images and text I have used for my college magazine are appropriate to the target audience of my magazine which are college students. Also I believe that I understood the conventions of layout and page design within my magazine. Some of the conventions I used in my magazine were a masthead at the top, a slogan, a barcode, a price, an issue number and a date for the magazine. Also whilst creating my magazine I was aware that I had to use different font styles and text sizes to make somethings stand out more than others on a page. For example I made the masthead for my magazine quite big and bold with a jagged font and I made the text around the picture on the cover smaller but still quite clear. Also the text size used on the contents page of the magazine is considerably smaller to the font size used for the mast head as it doesn't need to stand out as much.
I think the language used within my college magazine is suitable for college students and makes my magazine appeal to their age group. I deliberately stayed away from language that was too complicated or intellectual as this would be too hard to understand for my target audience and they would get bored quickly and probably not want to read the magazine. At the same time I didn't want to use language that was too simple or babyish because this might make the college students feel as though they are being patronized. also college student are usually between the age of 16 and 25 and so babyish language would definitely not be appropriate.
I believe that I used the ICT appropriately for the task set because I tried to use all the different tools I'd learned about on Indesign to make my magazine the best I could in the time given.
I think that I put appropriate images and text in my magazine and I think my images and text were all relevant to the task.
I thought that the photographs that I took were well taken and appropriate to the task. However I think I should have taken more and had a variety of images to choose from.
Also I think that I manipulated photographs for my magazine appropriately. This is because I cropped some images so all was left was the relevant part that I needed. Also when resizing images I held down the alt key so the pictures don't become distorted or pixelated . This helped me hold on to the original quality of the images which made the magazine look good.
Also my magazine follows the 3 colour rule used in many magazines. The three colours I used were purple, black and white.
Also I think you can tell that the cover and contents age are from the same magazine. This is because they both use similar font styles and have the same colour scheme running through them. Also the photos I used in my magazine are well taken and appropriate.
As well as this I have included enough stories on the cover and contents page and they are all relevant to the task and all appeal to the magazine's target audience of college students.

from this research I now know that : -
the mag needs to be around £3 and no higher
needs to have information about enrichment

Research & Planning- audience research
For our audience research we interviewed three people and asked them questions to do with making a college magazine. We can use what they said to make our magazine appeal to our target audience.
I now know : -
needs to be about £3
he thought the most interesting thing is lessons
the magazine would help pass free time
and he will look in the magazine for enrichment
I now know : -
he thought the most interesting thing was food
the magazine would help him pass his free time
he wouldn't look for enrichment in the magazine because he already knows about it
I now know : -
he wouldn't buy it
he is not interested in reading
the people in college are the most interesting thing
the magazine would not help him pass his free time
he wouldn't look for enrichment in the magazine

Research & Planning- college magazine analysis
Genre
This is a college magazine. I know this because the student looks about 17 and also she is dressed as if she is at college. Also at the side they are talking about stories that relate to and are appealing to college student. Example of these stories are fashion, tattoos and resumes (CV). Also this magazine is quite gossipy and not very informative. I know this because there is articles about fashion and celebs instead of educational features.
Representation
The girl on the cover is shown as being happy and content. I know this because she is smiling. Also she is wearing bright coloured clothing to reflect her personality. As well as this she looks down to earth and is wearing casual clothes just like any other college student. This makes her relatable. Also college girls may aspire to be like her because she looks successful.
Audience
The target audience for this magazine is college students aged 16-21. I know this because the magazine features articles such as 'Freshman Fashion' and 'Spice up your resume' and these articles would be appealing to college students. Also the title of the magazine is 'COLLEGE' and so this makes the target audience of this magazine quite obvious.
Media Language
There is meduim shot of a college student on the cover of the magazine. This shot is used to make the picture look natural and not intimidating. Also they have used two colours in their colour scheme red and black.
Also they have used two or three different fonts to keep the cover easy to read . As well as this there is a barcode and price in the left hand corner. Moreover the font is big at the top and then gets smaller near the bottom. The biggest bit of text on the cover is the masthead which is normal for a magazine and is to be expected. Also the girl on the cover is wearing regular clothing and a little bit of jewellery.

Research and planning - indesign starter
This is the first time I've used Indesign. We used Indesign to create a page from a magazine. We copied text from Microsoft Word and inserted a picture from the internet. We learned how to change the text colour and how to change the background colour. Also we used text boxes and columns.
