 The magazine I have chosen is a pop magazine

Genre

the genre of my magazine is pop. I know this because the title of the magazine is 'top of the pops'. Also the cover has pictures of pop artists such as The Wanted and JLS and they look happy. If it were a rock magazine then the pictures would look more dark and the artists would not be smiling.  As well as this the colours used on the cover show that it is a pop magazine as these colours are bright. If this magazine was rock the colours used would be dark. examples are black, browns and greys.  Also the fonts used in this magazine show it is a pop magazine. If it were a different genre like rock then the fonts would be more jagged and look more rough. Also on the cover there are artists stories. For example it says JLS secret hideouts revealed and  The Wanted are ready to date fans. Also an article featured is what boys really go for in girls, personality or looks. All of these articles will appeal to readers of a pop magazine as they are quite interesting and light hearted. 

Representation

The pop artists featured in the magazine are shown to be perfect but still down to earth. They are sort of extraordinary and ordinary at the same time. They are wearing fashionable clothes that suit their own style. Also they don't wear clothes that are too showy or over the top as they still want to be relateable even though they are big stars. The attitudes they appear to have is that they seem to be happy, posing and seem a bit fake.

Audience

The target audience for this magazine is teenage girls and young women. I know this because on the cover their is lots of pictures of good looking singers. These will appeal to girls and lots of girls fancy them. Also the magazine uses a lot of pink and purple on the cover and a lot of girls like these colours. 

Also the aticles featured on the cover such as 'lush lads stripped' would definitely appeal to girls and not boys.

Media Language

The shots that are used on the cover are 2 medium long shots and a medium close up. The colours used are white, pink, purple, yellow and black. Their is a main colour scheme made up of three colours.- pink purple and white. Most of these colours are bright and eye catchy. The fonts used represent the pop genre very well and are clear and easy to read. The font sizes used are quite big nearer the top and get smaller nearer the bottom. The biggest bit of text on the cover is the masthead which is normal for a magazine and is to be expected. The clothes seen on the cover are quite ordinary and yet still very fashionable. All members of The Wanted are wearing the same colour clothes. This shows they belong together and are all part of the same group. Also The Wanted member in the middle of the shot is wearing a silver necklace. Also Justin Bieber is wearing a baseball cap with the logo of new york yankees.
